Day after day, taking pictures of the world around him, his family and friends and transferring photos to a computer, a person stumbles with the problem of infecting a memory card of a camera with various viruses. If a good antivirus program is installed on your computer, it will quickly recognize uninvited guests. But if there is no program, and there are a lot of files on the flash drive, it can be quite difficult to detect viruses. Experts advise transferring pictures to a computer immediately after photographing, and formatting the USB flash drive periodically. How to do it?
Instructions
Step 1
Study the menus of your camera carefully. In every digital camera, and even more so in SLR optics, there is a "Format memory card" item. After selecting this option, a window will appear warning that formatting will destroy all images on your card and the question "Continue?" If you copied them in advance and there is nothing to worry about, feel free to click "Yes" or "OK", and the card will be formatted. If, when you try to format the flash card, you see the inscription "Impossible", or "Failure", "Replace the card", check if the protection against deleting photos is set. On some cameras this function is performed by a slider located near the inscription "Lock", on others - by a button next to which a key is drawn. Sometimes this button is pressed when the camera is folded carelessly and hastily into the case or when children play with your equipment.
Step 2
Owners of card readers do not have to carefully examine the camera menu. It is much easier to clear a USB flash drive with this device. To format the card, insert it into a card reader. After the computer reads the card and recognizes it as a removable flash device, go to “My Computer”, right-click on the card icon and select “Format”.
Step 3
If you don't have a card reader, but you have a cable for copying files to a computer, this will also help format the USB flash drive. Connect the camera and computer using this USB cable, wait for the computer to recognize the USB flash drive and format it as in the previous case. Those who work in Total Commander or Far programs should also click on the flash drive icon in the command line and select "Format".
