Standby mode allows you to save power and do not constantly turn off the computer if you need to leave the workplace for a short time. At the same time, the standby mode can sometimes interfere with work. For example, you might accidentally hit the standby key on your keyboard. Sometimes, when switching to this mode, the screen may become inactive and you need to restart the PC. It happens that the standby mode automatically turns on after a certain time. If you do not need to use standby mode, you can disable it.

Instructions

Step 1

For Windows 7 and Vista operating systems, there are two options for disabling standby mode. The first is to simply turn off the ability to automatically switch the system to standby. Click on "Start" followed by "Control Panel" and "Power Options". Opposite the line "Balanced" select the option "Power plan settings". Select the line "Switching the computer to sleep mode". Then click on the arrow and select "Never" from the options menu.

Step 2

The next option completely disables the computer's ability to go into sleep mode. This function is simply blocked and cannot be used in the future. Click "Start", then proceed to the "All Programs" tab. Select "Accessories" from the list of programs. Find the "Command Prompt" tab. Click on it with the right mouse button. After that, in the window that appears, select "Run as administrator". A command entry window will appear. Enter the command powercfg -h off, then press Enter to activate the command. You can enable standby by typing powercfg -h on at the command line. On the above operating systems, disabling the standby and hibernation modes frees up one gigabyte of disk space to the system partition of the hard drive.

Step 3

Disable standby for the Windows XP operating system. Click Start. Go to the "Control Panel" tab. Select the line "Power plans". Find the line "Standby". Select the Never option. Save the settings. Now the computer will not go into standby mode. You can turn the standby mode back on if you set the appropriate time for the computer to enter this state in the standby mode selection menu. Note that this mode cannot be completely disabled in Windows XP.
