Sometimes, when working with a computer, it is required that it remain on for a rather long time, but the computer can be in a passive mode. In order not to waste extra energy and to reduce the power consumption of your computer by lowering the power of the processor, you can start the standby or hibernation mode of the computer. In Windows Me or Windows XP, you can do this at any time.
Instructions
Step 1
To get started, open the display settings and check if the computer has standby support, adjust the power consumption settings when idle. Both in a regular desktop and in a laptop, you can put it into sleep mode by clicking the "Start" menu, and then clicking on the "Shut down" button. A window will open in which of all the buttons that appear, you need to select the "Sleep mode" button. Click OK to put the computer into standby mode.
Step 2
If necessary, make additional settings if you want the computer to go into standby mode when you press the power button. To do this, open the start menu and go to the control panel.
Step 3
Open the "Power supply" section and in the properties in the window that opens, select the "Advanced" tab. Configure properties so that when you press the computer's power button once, it enters sleep mode. Click Apply and then Ok. Press the power button to make sure the changes take effect.
Step 4
If you are using a laptop, it will be even easier for you to enter sleep mode - for most laptops, this mode starts when you lower the lid of the computer while it is turned on. If your computer does not have these settings, open the "Start" menu, go to the control panel and go to the "Power supply" section again.
Step 5
Open the properties, select the "Advanced" tab and set the desired parameters in the window - when you close the lid, the laptop should go into sleep mode. Click Ok.
