Often in the instructions for eliminating any defects in the operation of software or hardware, or in the instructions for using programs or Internet services, it is suggested to copy the information into a text file. Files with the txt extension are most commonly referred to as "text" files, although this definition can be applied to any file that stores text information, such as csv or doc. In any case, this operation is not difficult.

Instructions

Step 1

Create a new text document into which the data copied to the clipboard will be transferred. To do this, it is enough to open any program for working with text documents - for example, it can be the simplest Notepad from the standard Windows programs. The link to launch Notepad is placed in the main menu in the "All Programs" section, where you need to go to the "Standard" subsection and select the "Notepad" item.

Step 2

Switch to the program window from which you want to copy the text, select the desired fragment and press the key combination Ctrl + C to place it on the clipboard. If the program window does not provide a selection operation for the desired text, then it will have to be typed manually, if the amount of text allows it.

Step 3

Go back to the text editor window and press the key combination Ctrl + V or Ctrl + Insert - this way you will paste the contents of the clipboard into a blank document. Then press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + S to open the save text file dialog. In it, you must specify the name of the file and the location of its storage, and then click the "Save" button. After that, the data copied to a text file can be used for its intended purpose.

Step 4

If the text cannot be copied to the clipboard in the text format, then you can do it in the image format - create a "screenshot" by pressing the Print Screen button on the keyboard. Use a text recognition program to read the information from the resulting image and convert it to plain text. One of the most common applications of this type is Abbyy FineRider. The text generated in this way can be saved to a text file without using a text editor - the corresponding function is in the menu of the recognition program itself.

Step 5

Web pages can also be copied to a text file without using a text editor. To do this, press the key combination Ctrl + S to open the dialog for saving the page, and then in the "Save as type" field, select the line "Text file" and click the "Save" button.
