A PC user is often faced with the fact that the player does not open video clips or movies. There may be several reasons for this. And, depending on the cause, the solution to this problem is different.
Additional codecs
The most likely reason for not opening a video clip or movie on a computer is the lack of the required codecs. Codecs are required for normal playback of multimedia files. The more codecs installed on the computer, the more formats the players support.
Standard Windows Player generally supports fewer formats than dedicated players. Special players such as KMPlayer or VLC have a wider range of supported formats. They also have broader video capabilities.
If the required codecs are not available, the player displays the message "Codecs not found" or "Filters not found for playback". In this case, you can try to find codecs on the Internet. For example, to find codecs for the KMPlayer, you need to enter the corresponding query in the search bar.
After downloading and installing the necessary codecs, you need to try to open a video clip or movie. If the problem was indeed the lack of codecs, the file will open.
Wrong format
The problem may also be that the format is not specified in the video properties or is specified incorrectly. For example, after the AVI or Mp4 file type specified in the properties, there may be an extra letter or number. Or, instead of a format, there may be a meaningless set of characters altogether. Then you need to register the file type manually.
To change the format of a video clip or movie, you must first turn on the visibility of file types. To do this, go to the "Start" menu. Open "Control Panel" and find "Folder Options". In the Folder Options window, select the View tab. Uncheck "Hide extensions for registered file types".
Then click on the desired movie or video clip on your computer, select "Properties". The file type should be visible next to the name. If this is an incorrectly written video format, then fix it manually by erasing unnecessary characters. If the file type is not specified, put a period after the name and manually specify one of the popular video formats. This is mp4, avi or flv.
Broken file
If the video does not open after installing the codecs and fixing the file type, the problem may be in the file itself. The file may be broken due to improper download. This often happens when using mobile internet and very slow internet. In this case, you need to download the video clip or movie again via another Internet connection.
