But each model of the optical drive has a firmware, which is the software of this device. The need to flash the drive can arise in many cases, for example, to improve the performance of the device. Or you need to flash the dvd rw drive to fix the flaws of earlier firmware versions.

Step 1
Download the latest firmware from your optical drive manufacturer's website. To flash the drive, you will need the appropriate utility. Download the Sfdnwin utility from the Internet. It is completely free and takes up less than a megabyte of space. During the process of flashing the drive, there should be no disk in it.
Step 2
Sfdnwin does not require installation. After downloading it from the Internet, just double-click on the file. After that, a small window will appear. There is an arrow opposite the Drive line. Click on this arrow with the left mouse button and select the drive you are going to flash from the list.
Step 3
Next, pay attention to the small icons that are located in the upper left corner of the program window. There are three of them. Click on the folder icon with the left mouse button. In the window that appears, specify the path to the firmware file. Click on this file with the left mouse button, then click "Open" from the bottom of the window. If the firmware you downloaded is incompatible with your optical drive, a window will appear that will display an error. If this does not happen, then the firmware version is correct.
Step 4
Now that the path to the firmware file is indicated, in the upper left corner of the program, click on the central icon (Start Download). The process of flashing the drive will begin, the duration of which is approximately 20 seconds. After the process is complete, restart your computer. The drive will then run under the new firmware.
