Modern operating systems support software updates, which contain fixes for the security and functionality of the computer. To download these updates, special utilities are used that save the necessary files to separate folders on the computer, through which the installation of new software packages is carried out.
Instructions
Step 1
Microsoft systems use Windows Update to download updates. This utility automatically communicates with the company's server, which hosts new data packages. If available, the program automatically downloads and stores the received data in the appropriate section of the system.
Step 2
In Windows, updates are downloaded to the Download directory of the system catalog. You can find this folder using "Start" - "Computer" - "Local drive C" - Windows - SoftwareDistribution. This is a folder that is automatically scanned by the system. If it contains files, Windows automatically starts the installation.
Step 3
If errors occur during the software update, you can manually delete all files in this directory. To do this, simply select all documents and press the Del key of the keyboard or use the context menu that is called when you press the right mouse button. After uninstalling, Windows Update will automatically download the data it needs to install again and then retry installing updates to the system.
Step 4
You can also save these files if you reinstall the system and want to avoid waiting for new update files to be downloaded. To do this, insert the storage medium into the computer drive and copy the contents of the update folder to it. After reinstalling Windows, copy these files to the same directory for their subsequent installation.
Step 5
If you don't want to receive Windows updates, go to Start Menu - Control Panel - System and Security. In the list of sections, click "Windows Update". In the menu on the left, click on "Parameter Settings" In the drop-down list "Important updates" select "Do not check for updates" and click "OK". After selecting these settings, Windows Update will be disabled.
