Shortcuts are used in the operating system to organize quick access to files, folders, and other resources located on your computer or accessible through network connections. In Windows, the functions of working with files and folders are assigned mainly to Explorer, so it is more convenient to create new shortcuts in it. For this, several simple sequences of operations are provided.

Instructions

Step 1

Start the file manager of the Windows operating system by pressing the WIN + E hotkey combination. Navigate the directory tree in the left pane of the Explorer interface to the folder where the file you want to create a shortcut is stored for.

Step 2

Select the file, press the right mouse button and without releasing the button, drag it to the folder where you want to create a new shortcut. You can also drag it to the desktop. When you release the button, a small menu will pop up, in which you need to select the "Create shortcuts" item. By default, the name of the file will be used as the name of the new shortcut - you can change it, for example, by highlighting and pressing the F2 key.

Step 3

Right-click the source file once if you want to create a shortcut in the same folder as the file itself. In the context menu that appears, select the "Create shortcut" item, and Explorer will create and add a shortcut for the selected object to the end of the list of files in this directory. As in the previous method, the name of the file will be used as the label for the shortcut, which can be changed in the same way.

Step 4

Another way is to go to the folder where the created shortcut should be located and right-click the free space. The same can be done on the desktop. In both cases, the drop-down context menu will contain the "Create" section, after opening which you need to select the "Shortcut" item. This will launch the step-by-step wizard for creating a new shortcut.

Step 5

Click the "Browse" button and in the window that opens, find the file you are creating a shortcut for. Then click the "Next" button, type the text of the signature for the new icon and click the "Finish" button. The shortcut will be created by the wizard.

Step 6

The same wizard for creating a shortcut can be called through the Explorer menu. To do this, open the "File" section in it, go to the "New" subsection and select the "Shortcut" item. In the wizard launched in this way, you need to act in the same way as described above.
