A plotter is a large-format device that is used to print large-format images on paper, examples of which are graphs or drawings. This device is otherwise called a plotter.

The principle of operation of plotters and inkjet printers is the same. To apply the image, a special writing block is used, which is called a pen. Large format printers are also called plotters, but this is not entirely true.

The classification of plotters is carried out according to the following parameters: - method of drawing formation: raster, with arbitrary scanning; - type of drawing head: photoplotters, pen, with a milling head, with a scribing head; - way of moving the media: drum, flatbed, mixed.

Flatbed plotters are distinguished by the fact that the medium is fixed in them in a fixed manner. Fastening can be carried out on electrostatic, vacuum, mechanical bases. For use in flatbed plotters, plain paper can be used. Its size is limited only by the size of the device itself.

Moving media plotters fall into three categories: reel, friction and roll. Drum plotters use a special rotating drum to secure the media. Friction plotters use rollers to move the media. Due to this, such plotters are significantly smaller than drum plotters. Roll media are similar to friction media, but they use a special media.

The principle of operation of electrostatic plotters is as follows. The dielectric paper is moved under the electrostatic head. Negative voltage needles are located on the heads. Due to this, the paper is charged, after which the toner is sprayed, which is positively charged. As a result, the negative charge attracts the positively charged toner particles.
Step 7
The main characteristics of plotters are plotting format, plotting speed, accuracy and resolution.
