Instructions

Step 1

Install the USB flash drive into the computer and wait for it to be detected in the system. Then go to "Start" - "Computer". Click on the name of the storage medium with the right mouse button to display a context menu. In the list that appears, select "Format".

Step 2

In the window that appears, configure the necessary parameters for formatting. Select NTFS from the File System drop-down list. It is not necessary to change the cluster size. In the "Volume label" field, specify the name for your flash drive, which will be changed during the file system conversion process.

Step 3

In the "Formatting Methods" menu, check or uncheck the "Quick (clear table of contents)" checkbox. If you uncheck the checkbox, the formatting program will perform a complete conversion of the FS of the storage medium, i.e. will run a full cleanup that permanently deletes all of your data. Quick format is different in that after it you will have a chance to recover data. Fast formatting takes only a few seconds. The complete conversion can take quite a long time.

Step 4

After making all the settings, click "Start" and wait for the operation to complete. If no error messages appear on the screen, the operation was successful and the conversion was complete.

Step 5

You can also use third-party utilities to format a USB flash drive to NTFS. So, HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool will allow you to perform the desired procedure using the appropriate function. Download the HPUSBFW program and unpack it to any directory using the WinRAR program, then run the HPUSBFW.exe file.

Step 6

In the window that appears, select your USB flash drive from the drop-down list of the Device field. In the File System section, specify NTFS. To enable the quick format feature, select the Quick Format checkbox and then click Start. Confirm the operation and wait for the conversion to finish.
