The process of setting up shared access to two computers is a strict sequence of steps. The whole procedure will take a little time, and as a result you will be able to share files and resources.
Necessary
- - 2 network cards,
- - twisted pair cable,
- - two computers.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure there is a network adapter in the computers that you are going to connect to the network. The adapter can be built into the motherboard. Look for a modem-like connector on the back of the system unit - it is slightly wider in size. The port is called LAN - Local Area Network. Pay attention to its appearance. If such a connector is found, you do not need to purchase any network cards.
Step 2
The exchange of information will take place via a special Ethernet cable, also called "twisted pair". Buy it at any computer store, but first measure the distance between the computers. Take the cable with a margin, but keep in mind that its length should not exceed 100 meters.
Step 3
Arriving at the store, tell the seller the required cable length, specifying its purpose. The cable can be cut and "crimped" directly on the spot, or sold ready-made to you. Crimping is the process of attaching a twisted pair to a connector - a special connector.
Step 4
Insert one end of the cable into the connector on the network card, repeat the procedure with the second computer. Now turn on both computers, wait for the operating system to load and proceed to setup.
Step 5
First, the computers need to be given new names. Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. In the menu, select the line "Properties". Next, go to the "Computer name" tab, click "Change". A new window will open where you need to enter a name in Latin transcription, for example, comp1.
Step 6
Trace the name of the workgroup - HOMEGROUP should be on both computers, you can leave it by default, but it should be the same for all connected computers. Click "OK" and restart your computer.
Step 7
Repeat the renaming steps on the second computer, just name it, for example, Comp2. After completing the settings, restart the second computer too.
Step 8
Move on to assigning addresses. On the first computer, click "Start" and go to the "Control Panel" tab. In the window that opens, find and open "Network Connections". Next, "Local Area Connection" and click on the icon with the right mouse button.
Step 9
In the menu that opens, go to the "Properties" line, in the "Components used by this connection" tab, select the "Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)" item and click the "Properties" button.
Step 10
Check the box next to the line "Use the following IP address" and set the computer address: 191.168.0.1, the subnet mask will be filled in automatically. Click "OK" and close the network connections window.
Step 11
Next, in the "Control Panel" tab, find "Windows Firewall" and disable it. Now allow "Sharing" to those files and folders that should be accessible from another computer.
Step 12
To do this, right-click on the selected folder, in the menu, click the line "Properties", then "Access", then check the box next to the item "Allow shared access to this folder".
Step 13
Repeat the steps for setting up with the second computer, keep in mind that the address of the systems must be different - assign it, for example, the following value: 192.168.0.2
Step 14
The configured network can be checked as follows: click "Start", then in the "Run" field enter the command cmd and click "OK". In the window that opens, enter ping192.168.0.1 - for the first computer, ping 192.168.0.2 for the second computer + "enter". The ping command is used to check the connection.
Step 15
If the network is configured correctly, the process of sending "packets" will begin, the loss should be less than 5%. If there are more of them, look for the causes of the problems. Check the correctness of the specified addresses, the correct connection, the "crimping" of the cable, try to connect another, known to be valid cable. Check all the settings point by point again.
