Instructions

Step 1

You can change your password in several ways that do not require any additional settings and are suitable for any version of Windows XP. The first way is through the "Control Panel". To implement it, left-click on the "Start" button on the taskbar. Then, in the menu that opens, select the "Settings - Control Panel" items. After that, in the dialog box that appears, click on the "User Accounts" link. Open your account where you want to change your password.

Step 2

Next, click on the "Change password in the next dialog box" link and fill in the three required text fields. In the first of them, in order to maintain security, you must enter your old password, in the second - a new one, and in the third - its confirmation. The fourth field is used to enter a hint that will remind the password if the user suddenly forgot it. This field is optional, but if you fill it in, you should come up with a hint that won't be too obvious to other users.

Step 3

After entering all the necessary data, click on the "Change password" button. If all fields are filled in correctly, the operating system will accept the password change. For the changes to take effect, you must restart your computer.

Step 4

The second way to change the password in Windows XP is by using the Run command. In this case, the following sequence of actions will be required. Click on the "Start" button. Then select Run from the menu and in the text box that appears after that enter the command Control userpasswords2. In the dialog box that will appear after executing the command, select the record of the user who needs to make changes and click on the "Change password" button. Enter your new credentials in the New Password and Confirm text boxes, and then click OK.

Step 5

When changing the password using any of the proposed methods, please note that either the account owner or a user with administrator rights has access to this action. If the administrator changes the password for another user, then when using the first method in the "User accounts" dialog box, select the "Change account" link and then specify the record to be changed, and then follow the above steps.
