Using a paging file with Windows operating systems can significantly improve the performance of your computer. To "squeeze" the maximum of resources from this file, you need to create a separate local disk for it.
Necessary
Partition Manager
Instructions
Step 1
In most cases, the paging file is initially located on the system partition of the hard drive. Disable support for this resource in the specified zone. Open the start menu. Right-click on the "Computer" (Win 7) or "My Computer" (Win XP) icon.
Step 2
Follow the link "Advanced system settings". In the Performance submenu, click the Options button. Now click on the "Change" button located in the "Advanced" menu.
Step 3
Set the "No paging file" option for all local drives. Click the Apply button and close the dialog menu.
Step 4
Install the Partition Manager program. Run it and select "Power User Mode". Open the "Wizards" tab. Go to "More Actions" and select the "Create Section" option.
Step 5
The new menu will display the existing sections. To create a local disk for the paging file, which will be physically located at the beginning of the hard drive, move the new partition icon to the left border. To do this, press the corresponding button several times.
Step 6
Select the size of the partition. To do this, multiply the amount of RAM by 3 and add 10% to the resulting number. Click "Next". Check the specified parameters and click "Finish".
Step 7
Apply the changes by activating the appropriate function. Confirm to restart your computer. The process of creating a new partition can take a long time. In this case, this is due to the fact that the files located at the beginning of the hard drive will be moved to other areas.
Step 8
After booting the system, repeat the procedure to enter the paging file settings menu. Select a new partition and specify the size of the area set aside for storing the described file.
