If your hard drive is small, then sooner or later you will most likely face the problem of lack of free space. Unfortunately, it is impossible to add memory to the hard drive: you need to either change it to a more capacitive one, or add another hard drive directly. But there are several ways to free up some space on your hard drive by clearing it of "garbage" and unnecessary files that may remain on it after uninstalling programs.

Necessary

  • - Computer with Windows OS;
  • - TuneUp Utilities program.

Instructions

Step 1

Click on the hard disk partition with the left mouse button. Then in the context menu select "Properties", then - "Disk Cleanup". Wait a few seconds for the system to scan the partition you selected. Next, in the window that appears, mark the types of files that the system can delete (for example, offline Internet pages, etc.), and click OK, and then - "Delete". After that, some disk space will be cleared. Accordingly, there will be more memory. Thus, do this operation with all partitions of your hard disk.

Step 2

TuneUp Utilities will also help you free up space on your hard drive. Find it on the Internet, download and install it on your PC. Run the program. When TuneUp Utilities starts up for the first time, it starts scanning your computer. Wait for the scan to complete and then click Fix Problems. Again, wait a few seconds, after which you will be taken to the main menu of the program, in which select "Free up hard disk space". After that, go to the "Unnecessary files" section and select "Clean up".

Step 3

After completing the cleaning operation, you will again find yourself in the "Cleaning up the hard disk" section. This time select "Old Backups" and "Clean Up". When you return to the Disk Cleanup menu, select Windows Features. Review the suggested features. If you are not using any of them, then disable it. To do this, click on the line "Disable the program for a while." Most of the programs that will be offered there are of little demand, and turning them off will significantly free up disk space.

Step 4

Next, in the main menu of the program, go to the "System Optimization" tab and select "Remove non-working shortcuts". Wait for the system analysis to complete, then select "Clean". This will free up space slightly, but it will make the system work more stable and faster.
