The prevalence of "404 Errors" is evidenced by the existence of a special Internet resource 404 Research Lab, which contains more than twenty display categories of this error, ranging from "Useful" to "For adults."
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure you understand the meaning of the 404: Not Found error, which is the code name for the status of the HTTP data transfer protocol:
- 4 - browser error, i.e. the specified URL does not exist or was entered incorrectly;
- 0 - error in the HTTP syntax;
- 4 - the error belongs to the 40… error category (it also includes 400: Bad Request and 401: Unauthorized).
In other words, the server, which received a request to open a certain page, could not find the specified resource and returned it back.
Step 2
Reload the correct page to determine if the result is not random. In some cases, this may be enough to fix the 404 error.
Step 3
Make sure the URL you entered is correct, or change the extension of the selected document: *.html instead of *.htm or *.htm instead of *.html, whichever was used previously.
Step 4
Use the highest (relative to the used) level of the domain name in the URL:
www.site.com/docs/users
instead of
www.site.com/docs/users/username.htm.
Step 5
Check the existence of alternative links to the required page or use the search in other search engines - the necessary data may exist on a similar site.
Step 6
Contact the administrator of the Internet resource by email with a complaint about a non-existent link.
Step 7
Use the Reporting Services Configuration Tool and select the Apply Defaults command on the Report Server Virtual Directory page.
Step 8
Confirm the execution of the command by clicking the "Apply" button and once again specify the required account on the "Web Service Identification" page.
Step 9
Confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the "Apply" button.
