If you need to leave your computer for a while, you do not have to turn it off. You can simply put your computer to sleep. The exit from it occurs within just a few seconds. In addition, this mode has one very significant advantage: when switching to it, you do not need to close running programs and applications.

Instructions

Step 1

We will first walk you through the process of entering hibernation mode on Windows XP. Note that in order to enable hibernation, at least ten percent of the space on the system disk of your computer must be free, otherwise you will not be able to use this option.

Step 2

First you need to activate this option of the operating system. To do this, click on an empty area of the desktop with the right mouse button. A context menu will appear and select Properties. In the window that appears, click on the "Screensaver" tab. At the bottom of the window that appears, there is the "Power" button. Click this button. Then go to the "Hibernation" tab. After that, check the box next to the line "Allow the use of hibernation."

Step 3

The option you need is now activated. Accordingly, you can put your computer into sleep mode. To do this, click the "Start" button. Then select "Disable". As you will notice, there is no "Hibernate" button in the window that appears, there is only "Standby". Not to confuse these modes - they are different things. In this window, press the Shift key.

Step 4

After that, you will see that Hibernation has now appeared instead of the standby mode. To exit it, you need to press the power button on your system unit. On some motherboard models, you can wake up your computer from sleep mode by simply pressing any button on your keyboard.

Step 5

In the Windows 7 operating system, hibernation has been replaced with hibernation. The difference is that after the computer goes to sleep, the data is written to the hard disk and not to the RAM. After exiting sleep, the data is restored. To enter hibernation mode on this operating system, click "Start". Move your cursor over the arrow next to Turn Off. Then select "Sleep" from the list that appears. After that, your computer will be put into hibernation mode.
