It happens that a foreign object has got into your CD / DVD drive, and you just can't get it out. Either you need to take the disc reader for repair, or simply replace it with another. In all these cases, you will have to remove the drive from the computer.

Instructions

Step 1

Turn off your computer. Remove the cover from it, or both side panels, it depends on the design of the case. You will need access to both the right and left.

Step 2

Look at the inside of the drive. A wide ribbon cable goes from it to the motherboard. Please note that another device can be connected to this ribbon - another drive or hard disk. Then pull the ribbon out of the drive, but leave the other device connected to the motherboard. Sometimes, when pulling out one connector, the other is pulled out a little, but this is enough to lose contact. Check this moment. And if only your floppy drive is connected to the flex cable, then pull the flex cable out both from the motherboard and from the floppy drive and remove it from the computer.

Step 3

There is also a small power supply connector on the drive. Several multi-colored wires go to it. Simply pull this connector out of the drive and tie it to the power harness to keep it from loose. You do not need to remove anything on the power supply itself.

Step 4

Remove the screws from the sides of the drive that secure it to the chassis. Here, how lucky. Usually, access to the screws is quite simple, but it happens that you say a few kind words to the manufacturers of your computer. Carefully, trying not to touch anything else, remove the drive from the case. If you take it out for a long time, close the gap formed with a plug. Close the cover.

Step 5

You do not have a disk drive, but the BIOS of your computer does not know about it. If you are removing the drive for a long time, then it is advisable to disable it also in the BIOS. If you know how to configure the BIOS, disable the floppy drive there. If you do not know how, then do not try, call a specialist. But if you don't do this at all, nothing bad will happen. It is just that when booting, the computer will spend a few seconds waiting for a response from the drive when polling devices, and this will slightly increase the boot time.
