Despite the fact that the Windows XP operating system has been around for quite some time, it is still very much in demand and popular. This is especially true for those users who have computers of not very powerful configuration. After all, Windows XP is much less demanding on resources than, for example, Windows 7. But like other OS, Windows XP from time to time requires some optimization, after which it will work more stably and quickly.
Necessary
a computer with Windows XP
Instructions
Step 1
One of the simplest, but at the same time effective ways to carry out optimization is to defragment the hard disk. Click Start. Select "All Programs", then - "Standard Programs". Find "Service" in the list of standard ones. In the utilities, click on "Disk Defragmenter".
Step 2
A window will appear with a list of hard disk partitions. Select all partitions of the hard drive. After that click on "Defragment Disks". The procedure time depends on the capacity of your hard drive and how fragmented it is. The more the hard drive is fragmented, the longer the defragmentation procedure will take. After it completes, the hard disk will run faster.
Step 3
Often the operation of the operating system is "slowed down" by programs that can be launched when the PC is turned on and run in the background. In this case, the user may not even know about it. But every running program uses computer resources.
Step 4
You can remove programs from autorun in this way. Standard programs have a command line. Start it up. At the command prompt, enter Msconfig. The System Configuration window appears. Go to the "Startup" tab.
Step 5
You will see a list of programs that run along with the operating system. Disable auto-start of unnecessary programs. It is recommended to leave only the most essential. To disable an application, uncheck the box next to its name, then click "Apply". The next time the operating system is loaded, these applications will no longer start.
Step 6
Open the system drive, then - the Windows folder, then - Prefetch. This folder contains links to frequently used programs. Over time, a lot of links are typed, even if you no longer use certain programs. This can pretty much slow down the operation of the operating system. Empty the contents of the folder.
