Run the game in compatibility mode for the OS version for which it was originally intended. Compatibility Mode is an emulation of earlier versions of Windows operating systems that allows older games to run on Vista.

First, determine the operating system required for the game - for this, look at its system requirements or compare the release date of the game with the years of popularity of a particular version of Windows. If the game was released in 1995-1997, then it is Windows 95, if 1998-1999 - Windows 98, if 2000 - possibly Windows 2000 / Me. Well, from 2001 to the present day, it is Windows XP.
Step 3
Go to the folder where the game was installed to run it in compatibility mode. This is usually the folder C: / Program Files / Game_name_or_program. In the game folder, select the executable file to start the game, its extension must be.exe. Right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu.

Next, in the window, go to the Compatibility tab to set the game's compatibility mode. Check the box next to the corresponding item to be able to select the operating system to emulate when starting the game. Select the required version using the drop-down list. Set the items "Use a screen resolution of 640x480" and "Disable image scaling at high screen resolutions". This will prevent stretching of the image on large monitors. Click the Apply button.

Go to the forum or site for the game if running an old game in Vista in compatibility mode was unsuccessful. Perhaps there you will find recommendations or patches and modifications for old games.
