Instructions

Step 1

The Windows 7 operating system has many tools to make it more convenient to use. In addition to the flexible configuration of the graphical interface, the system includes the ability to control the sound design, which sometimes is of no less importance. Unfortunately, not all users of the "seven" know that there are more than a dozen standard sound themes in this system, and it is also possible to install your own sets of audio files. Setting up system sounds in Windows 7 doesn't take long, but it lets you replace annoying notification sounds or just diversify your virtual workspace.

Step 2

There are several ways to open the sound settings window. The first one is changing the personalization settings. To open the window, you need to call the context menu by right-clicking on the free space of the desktop, and select the item "Personalization". Next, you need to click on the "Sounds" icon located at the bottom of the window.

Step 3

Another way to get to the sound design settings menu is the Windows 7 control panel. You can open it through the Start menu by clicking on the corresponding icon on the right side of it. In the control panel menu, select the "Sound" icon and in the window that opens, go to the "Sounds" tab.

Step 4

In the field of the operating system sound settings window there is a drop-down list in which you can select one of the pre-installed sound themes. Below is an Explorer window that lists all Windows 7 system sounds included in the selected theme. Each of them can be listened to by clicking on the "Play" button.

Step 5

To load your own set of sounds, you need to bundle it into a folder with the name of the theme and place it in the Media directory located in the Windows system folder. Further compilation of the sound scheme occurs from the system sounds control menu. First, you should select one of the standard themes and expand the list of sounds that are included in it. To assign a new sound corresponding to the event highlighted in the list, click the Browse button and select the required sound file from the loaded folder. As soon as the changes are made, you need to click on the "Save as …" button and enter the name of the sound theme.
