Windows system sounds warn about important events: errors, system messages, incoming mail, shutdown. Some of the sounds can be turned off, and if they interfere with your work, you can turn off the entire sound scheme.
Instructions
Step 1
If you work in the Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 environment your work is interfered with by the system sounds from the speakers, but at the same time you are playing some sound files, i.e. You cannot turn off the speakers, find the speaker-shaped icon near the clock in the tray on the toolbar. By clicking on it once, a bar will appear next to the slider for the overall volume of the sound coming from the speakers. Below it you will see a link "Mixer". Click on it to open the volume mixer window of your sound card. In the window that appears in the "Applications" block, you will see several columns with sliders for adjusting the volume level. Among them there will be a column "System sounds" - lower the slider to the minimum or click on the blue speaker icon under the slider so that a red crossed out circle appears under the speaker image. System sounds are thus eliminated.
Step 2
If you are working in Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows Millennium or lower (before 2003), go to the "Control Panel", which is located in the "Start" menu or in the system folder "My Computer". Select in the control panel display small icons and find the Sound shortcut. Click on it with the left mouse button to open the properties panel of the sound card. In the window that appears, select the "Sounds" tab and in the "Sound scheme" drop-down list click on the "Silent" line, then click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons.
Step 3
Disabling only some of the sounds is also easy in any edition of Windows. Repeat step # 2 and in the sound properties window in the "Sound scheme" tab you will see the "Program events" field. Opposite some events there is a speaker-shaped icon - this means that this event is accompanied by a sound effect. To disable this or that sound, click on the event and in the lower drop-down list "Sounds" select "(NO)", then click "Apply" and "OK" to save the sound scheme.
