When recording a home video on a disc (or cassette), extraneous sounds (someone's speech, the sound of music, or the conversations of neighbors) and room noises often get in. With the subsequent viewing of the video, these phenomena become noticeable, and there is a desire to remove them. To process video and audio tracks, you need an audio and video file editor.

Step 1
Download the VirtualDub program from the developer's site at https://www.virtualdub.org/download.html and install it on your computer. To keep all program logs in the same directory as the program, install the entire software package to the system directory of the local disk of the personal computer. To open the program, double-click on the start file. Open your video in the app.
Step 2
To process an audio track, you need to separate it from the video image. Do this through the Direct Stream Copy item of the Video menu item. Then save the audio track as a WAV file via the Streams - Stream List menu.
Step 3
To edit an audio file, you need an audio editor. Audacity or the more complex Adobe Audition should be fine for you. Open the track in the editor as a separate audio file and use the program's functionality. You will need filters to remove extraneous noise from the sound, or a cut-and-paste operation. You can use various types of video files for editing, as this software works with almost all common formats.
Step 4
Attach the audio track to the video image using VirtualDub when all audio operations are complete. This can be done through the Add item in the main menu. Use the Interleaving item to synchronize audio and video. Save the modified file via the Save As section of the File menu.
Step 5
Instructions for working with sound editors and the editors themselves can be found and downloaded on the official websites of the developers. Adobe Audition is more powerful than Audacity. For more extensive tasks, you can use this program.
