When you press a key, the keyboard sends a specific code, which can be learned in various ways. Of course, the code is assigned according to a certain order and there is a lot of literature on this topic, as well as a table with their designations. Knowing the codes will come in handy when writing programs that work with keyboard buttons - for example, writing programs like PuntoSwitcher.
Instructions
Step 1
Download the program "Codes of keys of the keyboard for programmers and web-designers" from the official website of the manufacturer. In general, you can choose absolutely any program for these purposes, almost all of them are free and have a similar set of functions and interface, differ mainly in settings, display of additional codes (the ability to work not only with applications and browsers), the presence of a function that allows the application dialog box to be on top of other windows and so on. Perform the installation according to the instructions of the installation wizard.
Step 2
Run the program. You will see a small dialog box in which you just need to enter the name of the key you want to know the code for. Some versions of the program show the key code directly when you press it, for more details, check out the interface and program settings.
Step 3
Download and print the Keyboard Key Codes Table. Of course, this is not as convenient as when using the program, but the advantage of the table is that it can be stored in a paper version and used when there is no access to a computer. Also, visual associations will help you quickly remember the codes of the keyboard buttons for further independent work with them.
Step 4
Also use the "APE Key Codes" program as an alternative by downloading it from the manufacturer's official website. It has an intuitive interface and is very easy to use, does not require installation and is suitable for programmers and web designers, since it displays a key code on the screen that is relevant both for applications and for various Internet browsers. Among other things, this program has the advantage of extended functionality - in its settings, you can add an item to display additional key codes when pressed.
