The fact that Photoshop knows how to work with layers makes the life of the users of this graphic editor much easier. By placing the fragments on different layers, you can edit the images independently of each other, move individual parts or hide one image under another. And, if the need arises, you can add layers by copying them from another file.

Step 1
To work comfortably with layers in Photoshop, you need a layer palette. By default, it is located on the right side of the program window. If this palette is hidden, click on the Layers option on the Window menu.

If you need to assemble a file from layers contained in other files, open these files by launching the dialog box with the Open command from the File menu. Select the documents you are going to open with the mouse while holding down the Ctrl key. Click on the "Open" button.
Step 3
Click on the file window with the picture that you are going to insert as the bottommost layer in your document. Select the contents of the window with the All command found in the Select menu. Copy the selected picture to the clipboard. The Copy command from the Edit menu comes in handy for this. Click with the mouse on the file window in which you are pasting the layers. Add the copied layer to it using the Paste command of the Edit menu.
Step 4
The next image, copied and pasted as a new layer in your file, will completely or partially cover the image lying on the lower layer. If this does not suit you, in the layers palette drag the bottom layer to the top with the mouse.
Step 5
If the file from which you are copying the image contains more than one layer, and you only need one layer to insert into the document, make this layer active. To do this, in the layers palette, click on it with the mouse.
Step 6
If you cannot determine on which layer the desired image detail lies, simply turn off the visibility of the layers by clicking on the icon in the form of an eye. If the part of the image you are interested in is gone, you have found the required layer. Make it visible, select its content and paste it into your document.
Step 7
When copying layers from several different files with different linear dimensions, you will need to reduce or enlarge the copied images. To do this, click on the layer containing the picture that needs to be resized. If you want to change the size of images lying on different layers to the same extent, select these layers by pressing the Ctrl key. Use the Scale command to resize. It can be seen in the Transform group of the Edit menu.
