The operation of disabling disk caching differs slightly in different versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system, while remaining a standard procedure.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system by clicking the "Start" button to perform the operation of disabling disk write caching and open the context menu of the "My Computer" item by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 2
Specify the "Properties" item and go to the "Hardware" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 3
Select "Hardware Manager" and expand the link "Hard drives" by clicking on the button with the "+" symbol.
Step 4
Call the context menu of the disk caching to be disabled by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item.
Step 5
Go to the "Disk Properties" tab of the dialog box that opens and uncheck the "Enable write caching" box.
Step 6
Confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the OK button (for Windows 2000).
Step 7
Call the context menu of the "My Computer" desktop element of the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system by right-clicking and selecting the "Properties" item to perform the procedure for disabling the OS write cache.

Expand the Device Manager node and go to the Disk Devices section.

Call the context menu of the disk caching to be disabled by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item.

Click the Policy tab in the properties dialog box that opens and uncheck the Allow write caching for this device box.

Confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the OK button (for Windows 7).

Bring up the main menu of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system by clicking the "Start" button and open the service menu of the "My Computer" item by clicking the right mouse button to perform the operation of disabling disk caching.

Select Properties and select Device Manager.

Go to the Disk devices node and open the context menu of the volume to be disabled by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 15
Specify the "Properties" item and go to the "Policy" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 16
Uncheck the box next to "Allow write caching to disk" and confirm the selected changes by clicking OK (for Windows XP).
