Information caching by OS I / O subsystems when exchanging data with storage devices has been used for a very long time. Caching allows for almost instant modification of the newly written data due to the fact that they were not actually saved to the medium, but were only placed in a buffer in RAM. The price to pay for this approach is the potential for data loss in the event of a sudden power outage. Therefore, it often makes sense to disable file caching (for example, for a flash drive).

Step 1
Log into the Windows Control Panel. To do this, open the main menu of the graphical shell by clicking on the "Start" button located in the taskbar on the desktop. In this menu, highlight the "Settings" item. Wait for the submenu to appear. Click on the "Control Panel" item.

Open the Administration folder window. If the current display mode in the control panel is Category View, click the Performance and Maintenance link and then the Administration link.
If the control panel displays classic-style content, locate Administrative Tools and open. To do this, either double-click on it with the left mouse button, or right-click and select "Open" in the context menu.
Step 3
Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). To do this, double-click on the "Computer Management" shortcut in the "Administration" folder window, or right-click on it and select "Open" from the context menu.

Activate the MMC Storage Management snap-in. Expand the Storage section of the Computer Management (Local) group, if necessary. Highlight Disk Management with the mouse or the cursor buttons. The interface of the selected snap-in will be displayed in the right pane of the console.
Step 5
Open the properties dialog of the drive for which you want to disable file caching. In the lower list of the right pane of the management console, find the item that corresponds to the target device. Right-click on the block with information about the disk. Select Properties from the context menu.
Step 6
Navigate to managing file caching options when writing to the selected drive. Click on the "Policy" tab of the properties dialog.
Step 7
Disable file caching. Activate the option "Optimize for fast deletion" by clicking on the radio button with the corresponding text located in the group of controls "Write caching and safe deletion". Commit the changes made by clicking on the OK button.
