Large programs or games are distributed on the Internet in the form of special files called disk images. The disc image completely copies the structure and content of a regular CD. To run it on your computer, you need to have special software with which to mount the disk image.

Instructions

Step 1

Download and install on your computer a special application for mounting CD images called Daemon Tools. This utility is distributed on paid and free terms. To mount a CD in the amount of one or two pieces, the functions of a free program are quite enough. When installing the free version of the program, pay attention to the ad modules installed with it (costs of the free version of the program). By unchecking the corresponding checkboxes, disable their installation. After installing the application, restart your computer.

Step 2

Open the Daemon Tools settings by right-clicking on the program icon (after restarting the computer, the utility starts along with the system and starts its work in the background). In the settings dialog box, select the line "Emulation". After that, right-click the program icon in the system tray again and click "All options are enabled" in the context menu. The operating system will then detect the virtual CD-ROM drive, which will be displayed in all file managers. It is in it that the disk image will be mounted.

Step 3

Left-click on the "Drive 0: [X:] Empty" button in the main program window. In the opened window of the built-in file manager, specify the path to the CD image, which must be in.mdf or.iso format. After that, go to the "My Computer" folder (or start the file manager Total commander) and make sure that one of the appeared virtual CD-drives "contains" the disk image you have mounted. Launching a virtual disk is the same as launching a standard CD. A disk mounted in a virtual drive is a full-fledged replacement for a regular disk (for example, if a game requires a CD in the drive, its role can be played by an image).
