Necessary

  • - Ability to work with the console;
  • - knowledge of the command to disable DEP.

Instructions

Step 1

Disabling DEP is justified if you have a reliable antivirus and no less high-quality firewall installed on your computer. In some cases, it may be sufficient not to disable DEP completely, but to change the settings of this function. To do this, go to the "Control Panel", then open the menu items "Properties" - "Advanced". Locate the Performance section, click the Options button, and select the Data Execution Prevention tab. You will need an administrator password to change DEP settings.

Step 2

To completely disable DEP in Windows XP, you need to edit the boot.ini file located on the back of the boot disk. There are two ways to edit it. First: turn on the display of system files, to do this, open the properties of any folder - "Tools" - "Folder options" - "View". Activate the radio button "Show hidden files and folders", then find the line "Hide protected system files", uncheck it and click OK.

Step 3

Open the boot.ini file, find the noexecute parameter and change it to noexecute = AlwaysOff. Save changes and restart your computer. DEP will now always be disabled.

Step 4

In the second option, you can change the boot.ini file through the function of editing boot and recovery parameters. Open the "Control Panel", select the line "System" from the list, then the item "Advanced". In the Startup and Recovery section, find and click the Options button. Next, in the new window, click the "Edit" button. Edit the boot.ini file and save the changes.

Step 5

If you are using the Windows 7 operating system, you can disable DEP in the following way. First, start the command line (console), to do this, click the "Start" button and enter the cmd command in the search field, then right-click and run the program as administrator. Next, in the console window that opens, enter: bcdedit.exe / set {current} nx AlwaysOff, check the correctness of the command and press Enter. Reboot your computer. DEP will be disabled for the entire system.
