Step 1
Establish the fact that a port is broken in your computer by connecting several devices, preferably of different types (phone, camera, flash drive, etc.), in turn. It is quite possible that the malfunction lies precisely in the equipment connected through this interface.
Step 2
If, however, a malfunction of the USB in the computer was detected, check if this applies to all available ports or only to some. If everything doesn't work, reinstall the USB driver. To do this, download the latest USB 2.0 or 3.0 and then install the software on your computer. Uninstall the old driver if necessary.

If it was found that only some of the USB ports are faulty, or reinstalling the driver did not fix the problem, take your computer to a service center. On your own, you can only install a new PCI controller, splitters and so on, home repair is impossible here.
Step 4
After installing new ports on your computer, take the necessary steps to keep them working for as long as possible. Buy dedicated extension cords, adapters and USB hubs. Also, if possible, try to use original, undamaged USB cables to connect devices to your computer.
Step 5
Try not to connect damaged cables with traces of mechanical stress or which show signs of poor quality goods. Check frequently for available USB driver updates. Do not connect damaged devices to your computer.

If you frequently work with removable drives, use adapters to avoid damaging the ports. In no case do not repair them yourself, it is also highly discouraged to seek outside help in this matter, except in desperate situations.
