The resolution of a screen or monitor ensures that various objects located on it, such as windows, text, shortcuts, images, are clearly visible, and also affects the size of these objects. They will be the sharper and smaller, the higher the resolution. The screen resolution is measured in pixels (640 x 480 pixels is the lowest, 1600 x 1200 is the highest). Basically, the resolution depends on the parameters of the monitor, as well as on your preferences - which one is more convenient for you to work with.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are working on a computer with Windows 7 installed, then most likely you will not have to change the monitor resolution. The Windows 7 operating system is good, among other things, in that it itself installs the necessary drivers for the video card and monitor, and also selects the screen resolution that is optimal for your monitor.
Step 2
However, if you still need to change the resolution, exit to the desktop and right-click on it. A drop-down menu will appear on the screen, from which select the line "Screen resolution" (you can also get to this menu item through "Start - Control Panel - Appearance - Adjust the screen resolution").
Step 3
In the window that opens, you will see your current settings. The line "Screen" should contain the name of the monitor you are using, in the line "Resolution" - the screen resolution currently set, in the line "Orientation" - the orientation of your screen ("landscape" or "portrait"). As a rule, the line "Resolution" next to the current dimensions in parentheses indicates "recommended" - that is, this is the resolution that the system considers the most suitable for your monitor. If you want to change it, click on this line and drag the slider with the mouse to the value you need
Step 4
Click the Apply button. The selected options will take effect immediately and a window will pop up asking "Do you want to save these display options?" You can choose "Save" or "Cancel". In the event that you do nothing, the change will be canceled after a few seconds
Step 5
If the new resolution suits you, click “Save”, then click “OK”.
Step 6
When working on systems older than Windows 7, it may indeed be necessary to manually change the monitor resolution, since these systems do not always find the best option. To do this, right-click on the desktop on any empty space and select "Properties"
Step 7
In the window that opens, go to the "Parameters" tab. It also shows the type of your monitor, under which there is a section "Screen resolution". Here, using the slider, select the resolution you need, then click "Apply" and, if the selected resolution suits you, click the "OK" button. After that, the selected permission will take effect.
