The operation of disabling hidden administrative shared resources can be performed using standard tools of the Microsoft Windows operating system and does not require the involvement of additional third-party software.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Control Panel" item to perform the operation of creating a hidden share.
Step 2
Open the "Administration" link by double-clicking the mouse and repeat this action for the "Computer Management" item.
Step 3
Select the item "Shared folders" and call the context menu of the "Resources" section by right-clicking.
Step 4
Select "New File Share" from the menu that opens and specify the path to the selected folder in the "Shared Folder" field. An alternative action to achieve the same result can be to click the Browse button and select the desired folder from the list that opens.
Step 5
Enter your desired hidden share name and add a dollar sign ($) at the end.
Step 6
Click "Next" and apply the checkbox next to "Administrators have full control, others have no access" to restrict access to the selected folder.
Step 7
Click the Finish button to complete the creation of a new hidden share and click Yes to create the next resource or No to return to the Control Panel.
Step 8
Open the "Administration" link by double-clicking the mouse and repeat this step for the "Computer Management" item to perform the operation to delete a hidden share.
Step 9
Select the "Shared Folders" item and go to the "Resources" node.
Step 10
Call the context menu of the shared resource to be deleted by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Stop sharing" item.
Step 11
Click OK to confirm the application of the selected changes.
Step 12
Return to the main Start menu to completely remove the hidden share using the Registry Editor tool and go to Run.
Step 13
Enter regedit in the Open field and click OK to confirm the command.
Step 14
Expand the registry key
HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesLanmanServerParameters
and add (or create) a value for the AutoShareWks parameter "0".
