The encryption of folders in Microsoft Windows is a standard built-in function and can be performed on any computer using the NTFS file system or on a server that supports the delegate option.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system to encrypt the selected folder and go to the All Programs item.
Step 2
Expand the Accessories node and start the Windows Explorer application.
Step 3
Find the folder to be encrypted and open its context menu by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 4
Specify the "Properties" item and select the "General" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 5
Use the "Other" option in the "Attributes" group and apply the checkbox to the "Encrypt content to protect data" field in the "Compression and Encryption Attributes" group.
Step 6
Confirm the execution of the command by pressing the OK button and select the desired information protection option in the Confirmation of Attributes Changes dialog box: - only to the selected folder; - to the selected folder and all its subfolders.
Step 7
Confirm the selected changes with OK, or follow the registration process on a domain controller to change the delegate permission settings.
Step 8
Expand the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in and select the directory of the required domain in the console window.
Step 9
Find the server you are using and open its context menu by clicking the right mouse button.

Specify the Properties item and go to the General tab of the dialog box that opens.

Check the box next to Trust computer for delegation b and confirm the command execution by clicking OK.
Step 12
Re-confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking OK and exit the snap-in.

When performing the folder encryption operation for the first time, select the "Back up now" option in the system warning window and confirm the launch of the "Certificate Export Wizard" by clicking the "Next" button.
Step 14
Do not change the defaults in the next placer window and just click the Next button.
Step 15
Enter the password value for setting password protection and the file name for saving the created password in the new dialog box of the wizard and confirm your choice by clicking the "Finish" button.

Wait for the message that the certificate was successfully exported and complete the wizard.
