When setting up your home wireless access point, it is very important to choose the right security settings. This will keep your computers safe and prevent unwanted connections to the created network.
It is necessary
- - router;
- - patch cord.
Instructions
Step 1
Connect the Wi-Fi router to a power outlet. Turn on this equipment. Connect an Internet cable to the desired port (DSL or WAN). Select the computer or laptop from which you will configure the router.
Step 2
Connect the network card of your computer to the LAN port of the router. To do this, use a straight crimp patch cord. Some models of routers can be accessed via Wi-Fi. Take this opportunity if you do not plan to update the device firmware.
Step 3
Open the web-based interface of the router settings. Create and configure an internet connection. Now go to the Wi-Fi menu. Start changing the settings for the access point.
Step 4
Enter the SSID of the wireless network. Select the type of security from the available options. For a high level of security, it is better to use modern protocols such as WPA2-Personal. Make sure that your laptops are capable of working with the selected security type.
Step 5
Set a password to access your hotspot. It is best to use a combination of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and special characters. It is almost impossible to find such a password even with the help of special programs.
Step 6
If your router supports covert broadcast, activate it. Now, to connect to your access point, you need to manually create a new connection, specifying all the necessary parameters.
Step 7
Activate the MAC address check of the connected device. This parameter is usually found in the MAC Table menu. Complete this table by entering the MAC addresses of your laptop wireless modules.
Step 8
Save the specified parameters of the router. Reboot this device. Connect to the created access point and check its functionality.
