Step 1
If you have chosen a Wi-Fi router to create your own access point, then open its web interface. Connect the ends of the network cable to the LAN port of the router and a similar port on your computer. Turn on both devices. Launch an internet browser and fill in the url input field by entering the router's IP into it. Press the Enter key.
Step 2
Enter your username and password to be able to change the parameters of the network equipment. Open the Wireless Connection Setup (Wi-Fi) menu. Find the item "Security Type" or Security Type. Choose from the proposed options the option that is suitable for working with your laptops. Better to use relatively new types of data encryption, such as WPA2-Personal.
Step 3
Now go to "Password" or Password. Enter a password that meets the requirements of the selected security type. Better to use the maximum number of characters allowed. Use a combination of Latin letters, numbers and special characters. This will provide you with an increased degree of protection in the event that attackers use programs that iterate through character combinations.
Step 4
Now open the Advanced Setup or Security menu. Change the default password required to gain access to the router's Wi-Fi settings. Now, if someone connects to your wireless network, they will not be able to change the parameters of its operation.
Step 5
In the same menu, there should be a function that allows you to set valid MAC addresses. This is a kind of identification number that each network adapter has. Activate this function. Turn on all your laptops, press the Start and R keys, and enter cmd in the box that appears. Press the Enter key. After starting the command prompt, enter ipconfig / all and press the Enter key.
Step 6
Write down the MAC addresses of your laptop wireless adapters and enter them into the list of valid addresses. Save the settings and reboot the router.
