Restricting access to selected folders or a file in the Microsoft Windows operating system is performed by standard means of the system itself, without the involvement of additional software.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system by clicking the "Start" button to perform the operation of restricting access to the selected folder or file and go to the "Toolbar" item.
Step 2
Expand the Tools menu in the upper toolbar of the application window and select Folder Options.
Step 3
Select the View tab of the Properties dialog box that opens and uncheck the Use Basic File Sharing row.
Step 4
Confirm the execution of the command by clicking OK and return to the main menu "Start" to continue the procedure for restricting access to the selected folder.
Step 5
Select the item "All programs" and open the link "Standard".
Step 6
Start the Windows Explorer application and open the context menu of the folder to be restricted by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 7
Select Properties and open the Security tab of the new dialog box.
Step 8
Specify the account to be restricted from the list or click the Add button to view and select existing users.
Step 9
Apply the checkbox in the "Deny" column to the fields to be edited and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the OK button.

Select the "Advanced" option to edit the settings for access permissions to the selected folder and specify the required account in the dialog box that opens.

Click the "Change" button and apply the checkboxes in the boxes of the desired access restrictions.
Step 12
Check the box next to "Apply these permissions to objects and containers only within this container" to restrict the selected permissions to subfolders but not subfolders and confirm your choice by clicking OK or return to the Security tab of the selected folder and click the Advanced button to perform an operation to undo the inheritance of permissions from the parent folder.
Step 13
Uncheck the box "Inherit from parent permissions applicable to child objects" in the dialog box that opens and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking OK.
