Incorrect actions by incompetent users can harm your computer. OS Windows tools can help minimize this harm by restricting access to certain groups of members to local drives and the data stored on them.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine the rights and capabilities for each user group. To do this, in the Start menu, check the Run command and type in the search box: control userpasswords2.
Step 2
In the "Accounts …" window, select the user who are going to block access to the system disk, and click "Properties". On the Group Membership tab, set the Access Level … radio button to Restricted. Confirm the decision by clicking OK.
Step 3
If you have the NTFS file system installed, open the context menu by right-clicking on the local disk icon and select "Properties". In the "Access" tab, check "Cancel sharing …". Go to the "Security" tab and assign permissions and restrictions for groups and individual users.
Step 4
If the Security tab is not available, choose Folder Options … from the Tools menu. In the "View" tab, uncheck "Use basic sharing …" and click OK to confirm.
Step 5
Click "Add" and in the new window enter your account. Use the OK button to confirm. If you want to prohibit the user from any actions with the local disk, check the “Deny” checkbox opposite the “Full access” item
Step 6
If you need to prohibit only some of the actions, make a finer setting. Click "Advanced", then in a new window - "Change". You can allow this user to read only information from the local disk and deny any changes
Step 7
If your computer is running Windows XP Home Edition, reboot and use Safe Mode. To do this, press F8 after the initial questioning of the hardware and select the appropriate item in the boot options menu. In this mode, the "Security" tab will be available. Go in and set permissions and bans for all users.
