With the tools of the Photoshop program, you can select an object in the image by color. For this, designers use the "Magic Wand", "Magnetic Lasso" or use special techniques for changing the color thresholds. Selection is used, as a rule, to cut out an object and move it to another file. It is very convenient to highlight a color against a black and white background. This technique allows you to make the most high-quality selection, it is important for accurate rendering of the object's boundaries.

Adobe Photoshop, custom image

Instructions

Step 1

Install Adobe Photoshop on your computer and launch it. Open the image with which you will work using the hotkeys Ctrl + O.

Step 2

Go to Select> Color Range. In the window that appears, click on the color you are going to select. Move the indicator from side to side until only the required area is selected. Click OK.

Step 3

Make a copy of the layer (Create a new layer) and create a vector mask (Add vector mask). It is necessary to separate the selected part from the rest of the image. All changes made to the mask can be easily removed if desired, while the main photo does not suffer.

Step 4

Make the bottom layer black and white. This will not only make the photo look two-tone, but also improve its quality. Apply Desaturate to the image (Image> Adjustments> Desaturate or Shift + Ctrl + U) and switch to Lab Colors mode (Image Mode> Lab colors). Make a copy of the picture and use the Highpass Filter (Filter> Other> Highpass). After this manipulation, the sharpness and contrast of the edges will increase. Set the filter characteristics by trial. After using the filter, apply to the layer Hard Light (Layer Blending Modes> Hard Light) and set the opacity to 30-40%. The bottom layer, without a filter, process with a filter and apply curves (Image> Adjustment> Curves or Ctrl + M). The values are 255-210. Convert the image to RGB and flatten the layers. The image has become more contrasting and vivid.

Step 5

For the lower layer, which has become more contrasting, apply a black and white gradient Image> Adjustments> Gradient Map. In a layer with a mask, you can erase with the Eraser Tool, if something unplanned is highlighted. As a result, the selection of color on a black and white background will be flawless.
