Modern image editors offer a large number of tools for applying effects and adjusting photos. One of the most powerful applications today is Photoshop. With its help, you can apply the effect of a black and white picture, as well as adjust the necessary parameters of color and contrast.
Instructions
Step 1
Launch the graphics editor Adobe Photoshop on your computer. Wait for the program to finish loading, and then open the photo you need to edit using the File - Open menu.

There are several ways to apply a black and white effect in Photoshop. For example, you can use the Hue / Saturation function, which is available in the list of photo editing tools. Press the Ctrl key and the U keyboard to invoke the effect parameter setting interface. In the settings menu that appears, uncheck the Saturation parameter. Click "OK" and as a result you will get a black and white photo.
Step 3
In Photoshop, you can also apply the Grayscale option. To do this, go to the Image - Mode - Grayscale section at the top of the application window. After enabling this setting, your photo will be changed to black and white.

You can also use the Channel Mixer parameter. This mode allows you to adjust the white and black balance. Go to Image - Adjustment - Channel Mixer. In the window that appears, select the Monochrome item and adjust each of the color channels to your liking. This feature will help you get the shades and contrast you want. You can also highlight a specific color section or adjust the desired brightness by combining the applied parameters.
Step 5
Use the Gradient Map setting to increase the contrast of a black and white photo. Go to Image - Adjustments - Gradient Map. Change the options you want to adjust the smoothness of the gradient transition. This parameter will also change the contrast of the image. In this menu, you can also select the desired shades and adjust specific areas of the photo.
Step 6
After adjusting the effect display, do not forget to save your changes using the File - Save As menu. Specify the path to the saved file and the required format for the photo, then click Save. Editing the parameters of the black and white image is completed.
