All work on the computer begins from the desktop. Operating systems offer a good selection of standard styles and settings for this area, but to give your desktop an original look and make the design more personal, you can put your own photo on your computer.

Instructions

Step 1

Scan a photo or transfer it to your computer's hard drive from digital media. Process the photo in a graphics editor, if necessary, resize it. For the image to look good, without distortion, check the resolution of your screen. Click on any free space on the desktop with the right mouse button, in the drop-down menu select the "Properties" command. In the "Properties: Display" dialog box and go to the "Options" tab and note the information contained in the "Screen Resolution" section. It will be better if the photo has the same resolution.

Step 2

When your photo is ready, save it to your computer hard drive and remember the path to the file. Open the "Properties: Display" window in the manner described in the first step, or enter the "Control Panel" through the "Start" menu, select the "Change desktop background" task or the "Display" icon in the "Appearance and themes" section. In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Desktop" tab, click the "Browse" button and specify the directory where you saved your photo. Select the required file, click the "Open" button.

Step 3

At the top of the window, you can see how the desktop will look with the new background image. Define its position on the screen using the drop-down list in the "Location" section (center, stretch, tile). Click the Apply button for the selected settings to take effect. Close the properties window by clicking the OK or X button in the upper right corner of the dialog box.

Step 4

To ensure that your desktop photo is always displayed correctly, do not change its position or rename it. The system “remembers” not the photo itself, but the path specified to the file with a specific name. If the system does not find the desired file name at the specified address, the desktop will be filled with a solid background of the color specified in the settings.
