The world's first hybrid laptop was developed by the Chinese company Lenovo in 2010. It has a removable screen, with two devices combined in one. Each has its own processor and operating system, so a full laptop and removable tablet can work together or independently.
Hybrid notebook IdeaPad U1 from Lenovo is manufactured using Hybrid Switch technology. This allows the device to quickly switch between two different platforms. After removing the screen from the laptop, you can continue to view information, using it like a tablet.
The IdeaPad U1's display has six sections, so you can use multiple web services at the same time. In four-section mode, you can simultaneously view photos, videos, listen to music and open files for reading. The IdeaPad U1 has two batteries. Therefore, both the laptop and tablet can run on battery power for more than 5 hours while browsing the web using a 3G connection and standby time for up to 60 hours.
The touchscreen is separately powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon ARM processor and is powered by the Lenovo Me Centric operating system. The laptop itself uses an Intel Core 2Duo U4100 processor, its hard drives are solid-state and operate silently. The device provides data synchronization between 16 and 48 GB of memory.
The IdeaPad U1 has a Skylight graphical interface that has two modes. One of them is a familiar plane with six sectors, the second is a “flower” with four proportional “petals”. Each mode provides quick and effective access to your multimedia library. This hybrid laptop model also has a built-in video camera, microphone and 2 speakers.
ASUS has in turn created a line of hybrid notebooks called Transformer Books. They are made on the basis of Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processors, have a discrete video adapter, SSD-drive, 4 GB of RAM, 2 cameras - front and rear. The notebooks are equipped with the Windows 8 operating system. The company plans to release three models of ASUS hybrid notebooks with removable screens of 11, 6, 13 and 14 inches.
