A shared network (remote) printer allows you to speed up your work. If you need to connect several computers to one printer, you need to create a network of these computers. Creation of a network does not take much time and requires a minimum of actions from the user of a personal computer.

2 computers with installed network cards, patch cord

Instructions

Step 1

In order to connect two computers to one printer (network), it is necessary to create a network consisting of these computers.

Step 2

If up to this point, network cards have not been installed in computers, then do it. Insert network cards into free PCI slots of computers. Install drivers for network cards. If the network cards are already built into the motherboard, then nothing needs to be done.

Step 3

Connect your computers with a patch cord. A patch cord is analogous to an Ethernet cable, i.e. standard network cable.

Step 4

Configure the network cards:

- click the "Start" menu - "Connections" - "Show all connections" - select the default connection "Local Area Connection";

- right-click on this element - item "Properties" - "Internet Protocol TCP / IP" - click the "Properties" button;

- on the first computer, set the following parameters: IP address 192.168.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0;

- on the second computer, set the following parameters: IP address 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0;

- Save changes.

Step 5

After these steps, you must specify the name of the workgroup. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon - select "Properties" - "Computer Name" tab - click the "Change" button. Enter in the empty field "Workgroup" Network (you can enter any other name; do not forget that the computer names must be different) - click "OK". After restarting computers, they are added to the same network.

Step 6

In order to share the printer with these computers, do the following: on the host computer, click the Start menu - Control Panel - Printers and Faxes. Select the printer and right-click on it - in the context menu select "Properties" - "Access". Check the box next to Share this printer (enter the name of the shared printer).

Step 7

On the secondary computer, do the following: Click the Start menu - Control Panel - Printers and Faxes - Right-click to bring up the context menu. Select "Install a printer" - click "Next" - select "Network printer" - "Browse printers" - select the desired printer and the path to the distribution kit with drivers.
