If not, then after installing the drivers (which happens automatically), the contents of the hard drive will be available to you through any file manager.

You shouldn't connect unverified media to a computer without an antivirus program. Modern viruses use device autorun to copy themselves into the operating system. The first time you launch your portable media, the viruses it contains are automatically launched and integrated into your computer's registry, so do not disable your antivirus software.
