Instructions
Step 1
Most often, when working with external hard drives, an error occurs related to format incompatibility with the Windows system. Typically, this problem occurs as a result of improperly disconnecting the device from the computer. If you are not interested in the information located on the external hard drive, just format the drive.
Step 2
Connect the hard drive through the available interface. Turn on your PC and wait for the system to boot. Press the Win + E keys to open the File Explorer menu. Right-click on the external hard drive icon.
Step 3
In the menu that opens, select the "Format" item. Wait for the dialog to launch. Select the file system format and specify the cluster size. Click the Get Started button. Reconnect the hard drive to the interface after formatting is complete.
Step 4
If you need to extract information from a damaged hard drive, use the Mount'n'Drive program. Download it from the developers site. Install the utility and open it.
Step 5
Click the "Scan" button and wait while the program detects the external hard drive. Now click on the icon that appears with the right mouse button. Select Mount Device from the drop-down menu. Select a letter to be assigned to the local drive.
Step 6
Now open the file manager and navigate to the contents of the external hard drive. Copy the necessary information in the way you are used to. Please be aware that data transfer rates may not exceed 500KB / s. This means that the process of copying information can take a lot of time.
Step 7
After extracting the required files from the external drive, format it. To do this, use the method described in the third step or special utilities such as HP USB Format Storage.
