Although Photoshop is primarily intended for processing bitmaps, it has many features for creating and manipulating small pieces of text. You can create a caption or heading, include a text block in the image, apply various effects and deformations to the text, and change the style of the caption or edit its content.
Instructions
Step 1
If you know exactly how your text should look, then you can immediately set the necessary settings. But more often formatting is applied after input, when you can immediately see the result and, if necessary, change it by highlighting the desired text fragment.
Step 2
To edit the contents of the text layer, switch to formatting mode. To do this, activate the Type tool - "Text" located on the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Select the appropriate layer and click on the image within the text.
Step 3
Set the basic parameters of the text using the toolbar - Options, located at the top of the window. You can choose the type of text - horizontal or vertical, its font and size, specify the style and anti-aliasing.
Step 4
On the same panel, you will find three buttons for aligning text with respect to the insertion point. Next, there are buttons that allow you to select the color of the text, set its deformation and call additional text palettes: Character - "Character" and Paragraph - "Paragraph".
Step 5
To fine-tune the text parameters, open the Character palette - "Character". All the functions found on the toolbar are located here, and in addition, additional elements are included. To access some of them, you need to expand the additional menu. It is called by the button located in the upper right corner of the palette.
Step 6
To adjust text alignment, indents and spacing, go to the Paragraph palette - "Paragraph". Here you can also adjust formatting elements such as hyphenation and justification. But if this becomes necessary, then it is better to create the text in another program, for example, in Adobe InDessign or QuarkXPress.
Step 7
To finish working with the text layer, press the hotkey combination (Ctrl + Enter) or the checkmark button on the right side of the Options panel. You can just start working with another tool.
