At the command prompt, type Winver and press Enter. In a second, information about your version of the operating system will appear. At the top of the window there will be directly information about the version (assembly) of the OS. Information about its type and service pack, if available, will also be available.

You can also find out the version of the operating system using the Directx Diagnostic Tool. To run this tool, enter dxdiag at a command prompt. Wait a few seconds for the collection of information about your system to complete. In the window that appears, there will be a section "System Information". Find the line "Operating System" in this section. You can see the OS version and some other parameters (type, bitness).

If necessary, you can use special software that will help you find out not only the version of the operating system, but also many other OS parameters. Download AIDA64 Extreme Edition from the Internet. Install it on your computer hard drive. Run the program. Wait for the scan of your system to complete. After that, you will be taken to the main menu of the program.

In the left part of the program window, find the "Operating System" component. Click on the arrow next to the component. In the additional window that will open after that, also select "Operating system". Very detailed information about your operating system will open in the right window of the program.
