If, as a result of installing new programs or drivers, the system has stopped working correctly, you can restore its performance by returning it to its previous state. To do this, use the "System restore" component. System restore points are created automatically daily and before every critical event (for example, the installation of new hardware or software). It is possible to create rollback points manually.
Instructions
Step 1
To restore the system, it is better to choose the point that is closest to the date when the failure occurred. If you have Windows XP, from the Start menu select Programs, then Accessories, System Tools, and System Restore.
Step 2
In the System Restore dialog box, select the "Restore to an earlier state …" position and click "Next". In the next window, you will see the calendar for the current month with the dates of creation of recovery points marked on it. If you are going to restore the system, mark the desired day and click "Next".
Step 3
There are other ways to find restore points. Use the Win + R keys to bring up the search bar and enter the msconfig command. Go to the "Service" tab and select the "System Restore" option. Click "Next" and in a new window you will see a calendar with dates for creating rollback points.
Step 4
Reboot your computer. After the POST beep, press the F8 key. Select "Safe Mode" from the boot modes menu. Answer “No” to the question about continuing to work in this mode. After that, the system restore process will begin and you will be prompted to select a rollback point. You can also select a restore point in the Last Known Good Configuration mode.
Step 5
In Windows Vista, enter the system command in the search bar and check the System option in the dialog box. The system management dialog box will open. The same window can be called from the "Control Panel" by clicking on the "System" icon.
Step 6
Follow the link "System Protection". Select the System Protection tab of the System Properties applet. Click the System Restore button, then Next to see a list of rollback points.
Step 7
In Windows 7, in the Control Panel, select Recovery. In the new window, click "Start System Restore" and "Next". The system will offer a list of restore points to choose from.
