In the modern world, you will not surprise anyone with a computer or laptop at home. And even several such devices are not a luxury, but a necessary measure. And naturally, in such a situation, users want to create a miniature home network. It will facilitate the exchange of data between computers, and sometimes even open Internet access for all devices on the local network at once. In such situations, a device called a "switch" comes to the rescue.
It is necessary
- network cables
- access to the 220V network
Instructions
Step 1
A switch is a device designed to unite several computers or laptops into a single local network. Distinguish between switches with configurable and non-configurable ports. If there is no need to configure certain switch ports, then we recommend using the second type, because it is easier to work with them.
Step 2
Select the location where your switch will be located. This should be done following a simple logic: the closer it is to all computers of the future local network, the less meters of network cable you will need. Consider the presence of an outlet close to the switch.
Step 3
Connect each computer of the future local area network to the switch using RJ 45 network cables. If all ports in the switch are equal, then you can connect to any free one. If the switch contains configurable ports, then it is better to connect those computers from which you plan to control the switch and the network as a whole.
Step 4
Connect power to the switch. Please note that this should be done in the place where there is least chance of a power outage. This is especially true for managed switches, because by disabling such a switch, you risk not only being left without a local network, but also losing all its settings.
