Computer problems can range from minor crashes to major breakdowns that require component repair or replacement. One of the most unpleasant situations is when the user sees a black screen when the PC is turned on.
The computer does not turn on
If the computer does not turn on at all, the first step is to check the power supply. Pay attention to the monitor - if the LED is on, it means at least it is powered. In this case, first check the power supply switch of the computer (on the back of the power supply unit). If it is disabled, enable it and test the PC again. A new shutdown will indicate a short circuit. In this case, turn off all peripherals, including the mouse and keyboard. Turn on the PC again - if the download goes, look for a short circuit in the periphery. The mouse and keyboard can be tested by replacing.
Many motherboards have a power indicator - LED. By removing the side panel from the system unit, you can see if the LED is on. If yes, but the PC does not turn on, this indicates a malfunction of the motherboard or other serious defects. In this case, it is recommended to contact the service center for assistance.
The computer turns on but does not boot
The reason may be a malfunction of components - for example, RAM, or a malfunction of the OS bootloader. The computer usually reports a malfunction of components with a tone signal, its decryption can be found on the network. If the download does not work, first try to fix the situation by pressing the F8 key when starting the PC. A menu window will appear, in it you should select the "Load the last good configuration" item. In most cases, the PC then boots successfully.
If the PC fails to boot, you can try to restore it to work using the installation disc. The easiest way to do this for Windows 7 is to launch the OS installation, select the restore item, then select the troubleshoot boot problems from the list that appears. After that, the computer should boot up. To restore Windows XP, you will have to manually enter some commands; a detailed description of this procedure is available on the network.
To check, you can try booting your computer from the Live CD, which is included in many Windows installation assemblies. If the OS boots, you will be sure that the hard drive and other components are working properly, the problem should be looked for in the bootloader or the OS itself - for example, it can be damaged by viruses.
Malfunction of the video card and monitor
Sometimes the reason for the black screen is a malfunctioning video card, it can be checked by replacing it. If your PC has an integrated video card, you can connect a monitor to it. The appearance of an image will clearly indicate a malfunction of the main video adapter.
If the computer boots up, the monitor power-on indicator is on, but there is no image, shine a flashlight on the screen - you may see a very faint image. In such a situation, everything indicates a failure of the monitor inverter or backlight lamps. This problem should be rectified by a service center.
