If an unpleasant incident occurs - you have forgotten the password for accessing the laptop - then you will need to unlock it. This can be done without reinstalling the operating system, saving all data on the hard disk.

Not all tips are helpful

Setting a password on a laptop will help protect confidential information and block unauthorized access to various programs, folders or files. However, in the event that you forgot your password or lost the sheet on which the password was written, access will be closed for you in the same way as for the rest. It's good that it is possible to return access to the laptop with all the saved data.

There are many tips on the Internet - both useful and not so - on how to recover or bypass a forgotten password. For example, the way to delete SAM * files is useless. By deleting these files, you can run into big problems. In this case, when the system boots, a system error appears, which informs that the laptop cannot be turned on and needs to be restarted in safe mode. After clicking the "OK" button, the system reboots, but this error appears again - and so on ad infinitum. This usually ends with a complete reinstallation of the operating system (with the loss of all data).

Password reset via safe startup mode

Password recovery should be done in more humane ways. For example, first you should check the password hint (it is located on the welcome screen next to the password field). If the hint did not help to remember the password, then you need to log in through the administrator account and create a new password.

First you need to restart your laptop. As soon as the system turns on, you need to press the F8 key (the key may be different depending on the brand of laptop). Next, in the menu of additional options for booting the system, you need to select "Safe Mode". Then select the built-in Administrator account (by default, it is not password protected). After loading the desktop, a warning will appear that the system is operating in safe mode. Click "Yes" to close the message box.

After that, you need to go to the "Control Panel" through the "Start" button and select the line "User accounts". Next, you need to reset the password for your account through the "Change password" item. To change the password, you need to enter and confirm the new password. If you do not need to set a password, leave the field blank - the password will be reset.

To save the settings, click the "Change password" button. Close the "Control Panel" window, restart the laptop - you're done. Now, when the system boots, enter a new password and Windows will start.

You can also reset your password using various software tools. Usually they are written to a disk or flash drive, connected to a computer, and then the program removes the password on its own.
