Microsoft and Sony have been competing with each other in the market for several years now, and today the question of choosing game consoles from one of these manufacturers is very relevant. The new generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles entered the global market about a year ago (fall 2013), and gamers are still arguing which of these consoles is better.

Architecture and processor

PS4 and Xbox One are the first video game consoles with 64-bit CISC architecture. Both consoles also use the same 1.6 GHz AMD processor based on the Jaguar architecture.

Graphics subsystem

The situation is different with the graphics subsystem. Despite the fact that both PS4 and Xbox One have one graphics accelerator - Graphics Core Next (Radeon 7870) from the same AMD - its technical characteristics on the brainchild of the Japanese from Sony are somewhat better. The PS4 has 18 compute units and 1,152 stream processors, while a Microsoft product has 12 units and 768 processors.

RAM

Both consoles are equipped with 8 gigabytes of memory, however, again, despite the same volume, the Sony console is ahead of Microsoft's brainchild for two reasons:

  • The PS4 has modern GDDR5 memory clocked at 5500 MHz, while the One has the outdated DDR3 at 2133 MHz. It turns out that the performance of the two systems under consideration differs by more than two times in favor of the Sony product.
  • The PS4 operating system reserves 1 GB for its work, leaving 7 GB free for applications and games.

The Xbox One has only 5 GB of free memory, although this is not surprising, since there are two operating systems on the brainchild of Microsoft, one of which is used for games, and the second - Windows 8 - for everything else.

Networking capabilities

Sony has implemented support for PSN, which opens up a huge number of new social functions, and Microsoft has focused on the use of cloud technologies.

Verdict: Thus, the technical equipment of the PS4 is a cut above that of the Xbox One, so the product of the Japanese company wins a complete technical victory.
